The Carnarvon Tramway was built in the early 1900s and offers a 20 minute scenic trip from the town centre to the port. Carnarvon Port and Heritage Precinct has been restored and houses several museums, the northwest’s longest jetty, and a memorial to the HMAS Sydney, which sank off the coast. Travelling on the Ocean Tramway is a unique trip, one kilometre down the jetty. For the rail enthusiast you can climb aboard the beautifully restored engine ‘The Kimberley’, which was the last steam train to operate in the north of Western Australia.

The port town of Carnarvon is a 10 hour drive north of Perth.

1. Lighthouse Keeper's Cottage Museum The Lighthouse Keeper’s Cottage Museum captures the life of the early pioneers that operated the lighthouse in Carnarvon. It has been restored and provides an interesting look back at the lives led by the original lighthouse keepers during the 1900s, as well as providing some fascinating information about how the lighthouse operated.

2. One Mile Jetty One Mile Jetty in Carnarvon is the longest jetty in the northwest of the state. It is a great spot for fishing for Mulloway and Tailor, where you can enjoy fishing in the deep water without the need for a boat! Walk along its 1,493 metre length, and then catch the Coffee Pot train back. Enjoy a magnificent sunset over the water and soak up the history of this unique structure.

1. Big Dish The ‘Big Dish’ is a Carnarvon landmark. Take a drive out to the site of this massive satellite dish and marvel at the 29.5 metre diameter of the reflector. The building is not open to the public; however you can visit the site and enjoy the panoramic views of Carnarvon and the surrounding plantations.

1. Dampier Salt Mines Located on Lake Macleod, the Dampier Salt Mines are an impressive sight from the road. Whilst not usually open to the general public tours can be organised through the Carnarvon Visitors Centre, if there are a sufficient number of people interested in viewing the operations.
National Parks and Reserves (1)
1. Kennedy Range National Park The beautiful gorges and red rock landscape of Kennedy Range National Park are about a two hour drive east of Carnarvon.
Natural Attractions (8)
1. Bibbawarra Bore The spectacle of hot water gushing from the natural 914 metre deep Bibbawarra Bore is a fascinating sight. View the remains of the impressive 175 metre troughs that were used to transport the ground water to sheep and cattle, cooling along the way.
2. Cape Cuvier Coast Cape Cuvier Coast is a picturesque natural port close to the most westerly point of Australia. Driving along the spectacular rugged coastline you will be able to see the shipwreck of the bulk carrier Korean Star that ran aground following a cyclone in the area. From high up on the sixty metre cliff, in the winter months, you can see an incredible sight as whales and sharks pass by feeding on the schools of fish.
3. Gnaraloo Gnaraloo is a first class surfing, kite surfing and windsurfing beach along the stunning Coral Coast. It also offers exceptional fishing due to its position on the southern tip of Ningaloo Reef. Gnaraloo has 57km of coastline and offers a plethora of activities to entertain all who visit and an unrivalled setting to experience it in.
4. Quobba The spectacular Quobba coast stretching from Point Quobba to Red Bluff is renowned for exceptional fishing, walking, snorkelling and spectacular rugged scenery. Be amazed by the fascinating sight of water erupting up to 20 metres into the air at Quobba blowholes.
5. Red Bluff at Quobba Station The stunning coastal cliffs of Red Bluff at Quobba Station provide a spectacular location for the ardent surfer where waves can reach up to 2.4 metres in height. There are also a number of calm secluded beaches and some exceptional game fishing on offer.
6. Rocky Pool Rocky Pool is a freshwater pool near Carnarvon. This picturesque setting makes for a wonderful day trip. No matter what time of year you visit the pool, you will be able to swim in the inviting waters thanks to the year round warm climate.
7. The Blowholes Carnarvon The spectacular Blowholes Carnarvon, located about an hour's drive north of Carnarvon, shoot a powerful jet of water 20 metres into the air in an awesome display of nature.
8. The Fascine The Fascine is a picturesque bay in Carnarvon favoured by locals and popular with visitors. Take a gentle stroll along the boardwalk on the oceanfront to admire the coconut and cotton palms that line the path.

1. Kingsford Smith Mail Run The 800 kilometre Kingsford Smith Mail Run drive trail gives the traveller a real feel for Western Australia's outback with a smattering of history to make things even more interesting. The moderate Top Trail takes you from Carnarvon on the west coast, inland to Meekatharra.
2. One Mile Jetty Top Trail The One Mile Jetty Top Trail is located in Carnarvon, 904 kilometres north of Perth, Western Australia. This three kilometre easy walk trail runs from the Tramway Bridge in the town centre, along the railway line to the Precinct and the One Mile Jetty. This enjoyable walks allows close observation of the flora and fauna of the region with the help of interpretive signage.

With the region being abundant with tropical fruits, succulent seafood and a vast array of temperate climate fruit and vegetables, this event showcases these fresh amazing foods in Carnarvon on the banks of Western Australia's longest river.

1. Australasian Safari The Australasian Safari is considered to be one of the toughest and most challenging motoring events in the world. Competitors from all over Australia and the world travel more than 3,000 kilometres over seven tough days in Western Australia's spectacular outback.
2. Carnar-Fin Fishing Competition The Carnar-Fin Fishing Competition caters for beach, jetty, rock and boat fishing enthusiasts who attempt to catch the largest fish in 16 categories within 50 nautical miles of Carnarvon. Prizes total around AUD20,000.
3. Kickstarters Gascoyne Dash The Kickststarters Gascoyne Dash is a hardcore desert racing event featuring a diverse range of off-road racing machines; bikes, quads, four wheel drives and buggies. Competitors are as diverse as the machines they race coming from across Western Australia, interstate and overseas. They race in purpose-built buggies and motorbikes in a two day, 500 kilometre challenge across some of the harshest terrain in Western Australia.

Seasonal Fresh Produce Gascoyne Markets in Carnarvon:
Buy honey, fresh produce and the most divine strawberries you will every taste. Running May to October every year these diverse markets with everything from eggs to face painting need to be seen to be believed. Just sitting in the winter sun-shine, drinking wonderful fresh coffee and people watching is very relaxing. Several local artists use the opportunity to present their work - a bargain may be found.
Gascoyne Dash:
